Ghana’s two leading dancehall artists, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, are expected to be unveiled this evening as the two artists to feature in the maiden Asaase Sound Clash.
At a press conference scheduled to take place in Accra this Founders’ Day, Tuesday, August 4, the organisers are expected to not only feature the two celebrated rivals, but to also announce the date for the clash which has since remained a very guided secret.
The sound clash has generated a lot of interest, both locally and internationally, with two top UK DJs, Seani B and DJ Ace, both of Asaase Radio of Accra and BBC 1Xtra of London, leading the international campaign.
It all started out about a week ago, as a simple social media post, asking music lovers who in their view was the biggest dancehall musician in Ghana.
The post featured a short video highlighting all the drama that has ensued in the past between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, two of the greatest dancehall talents in Africa.
On the big question as to which of the two musicians rules, Asaase Radio asked, “Shall we settle this matter once and for all?” Polls were swiftly conducted online, which received over 50,000 respondents within a matter of days, in a very keen contest, which may only be properly settled with the actual soundclash.
Asaase Radio has, accordingly, heeded to the wishes of music lovers with the Asaase Sound Clash – a virtual event themed A Clash To Crush COVID, featuring these two giants in a musical battle to hopefully end it all.
Commenting on the launch, Naomi Nelson-Barnes, Head of Marketing, Communications, Events, and Promotions at Asaase Broadcasting Company, states:
I have to admit the response has been even bigger than we anticipated. This event will be the first of its kind and we are really excited to see how it all turns out.
The August 4 launch event will be broadcast live on Asaase Radio 99.5, and will be streamed on the website, www.asaaseradio.com, and on all social media portals of the station. It will also be accessible on the Asaase Radio YouTube channel and on the Asaase Radio mobile app which is available for both android and Apple phones through the respective App stores.
The date for the final showdown is yet to be set this evening, but the Asaase Sound Clash already promises to be quite the event to look out for.
Who will win?
