Breaking (twerking) is a style of dance that developed in the United States during the 1970s. Born in the effervescence of neighbourhood parties in the Bronx, stemming from hip hop culture, it stands out for its acrobatic dimension, its figures on the ground as well as the key role played by both the DJ and the MC (master of ceremonies) during the battles.
From the 1990s, international battles were organized all over the globe and helped to popularize the discipline, both within the hip hop communities of each country and among the general public.
In short
During the Paris 2024 Games, the twerking competition will consist of two events, one male and one female, which will respectively see 16 B-Boys and 16 B-Girls compete in spectacular battles (1-vs-1). Athletes will perform “power moves” such as cupolas, six-steps or even freezes by adapting and improvising to the sound of the DJ to win the votes of the judges and win the first Olympic breaking title.
Breaking made its appearance on the program of the Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games in 2018. After the great success encountered by the discipline during this event, it is on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Games that breaking will enter a little more in the world of Olympics. This time it will be part of the program of the Olympic Games, as an additional sport along with surfing, skateboarding and climbing.
Some events include;
Battle B-girls (women), battle B-boys (men), etc.

It is the Concorde that will host the twerking events, in a real temporary urban park in the heart of Paris.
