Earlier today Ex-President of Ghana John Mahama elects his running mate who happens to be a female and goes by the name Professor Naana Jane Opiku-Agyemany.
Prof. Naana Jane Opiku-Agyemang was the first female Vice-Chancellor in Ghana until her retirement.
She hails from Komenda, Central Region. She attended Anglican Girl’s Secondary School at Koforidua and Aburi Presby Girl’s School.
She then had her secondary education at the Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast from 1964 to 1971, where she was the School Prefect in her final year.
She completed B. A.(Hons), Ed. at the University of Cape Coast in 1977 and obtained her Masters and Doctorate degrees from York University in Toronto, Canada in 1980 and 1986 respectively.

Former President John Mahama has settled on former Education Minister, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate for the 2020 elections. This makes her the NDC’s first and Ghana’s fifth Vice-Presidential candidate.
In the 1996 general elections, PNC’s Edward Mahama selected Adeline Dedo Martey as his running mate.
For the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Papa Kwesi Nduom nominated Eva Lokko as his running mate for the 2012 general election and
Brigitte Dzogbenuku for the 2016 elcetions.
The People’s National Convention (PNC), Hassan Ayariga also nominated Helen Sanorita Dzatugbe Matrevi.
Dr. Abu Sakara Foster nominated Nana Akosua Frimpomaa as his running mate for Convention People’s Party (CPP).
The Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD) nominated Ms. Rosemond Abraham as the running mate of the party’s presidential aspirant, Mr. Kwabena Adjei in 2008.
This the first time the NDC has nominated a female Vice-Presidential candidate and any of the two major political parties goes into an election with a woman on the presidential ticket.
If the NDC emerges victorious in the polls, she will be the first female Vice President of Ghana.
