Rapper EL has expressed his opinion on the government’s decision to reopen schools in the country despite the nuisance posed by Covid-19.
In an interview with Amansan Krakye on Radio Central, EL said the decision doesn’t augur well for us all. ‘The numbers are still going up so I don’t know why they mean by things are safe’, he said.
Because per my observations and my knowledge, the numbers are still rising” he added.
According to EL, no country in the world has reopened schools in this pandemic so he’s advising GES to halt reopening of the schools because there’s no need putting lives at risk. “There’s no need for us to rush into the world and get hurt or get sick” he concluded.
Because if Coronavirus should escalate in Ghana just like what happened in some foreign countries, the effects will surely be devastating due to the fact that we are still a third world country”, he cautioned.
Meanwhile Pre-tertiary Education Unions ay they will kick against any plan of GES to reopen schools. The Unions believe it’s inappropriate for the President, Nana Akufo Addo to even think of recalling students and teachers back to the classroom when Covid-19 is still on a rampage.
In a letter dated May 18, 2020, addressed to the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), in response to requests for suggestions to plan the re-opening of school.
The unions – Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT-GH) and Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
He said given that our schools could serve as incubation centres of the pandemic, coupled with the unlimited social interactions and movements which take place there, they would not support the reopening of schools.
